Characterization of Anna

Anna is a 15-year-old girl from the Ukraine. She comes illegally to London because she hopes to find a good job there, for example as a chambermaid. She hated her life at home because she had to organize the life of her whole family and she felt like there is no future for her in the Ukraine. She is a girl with a lot of dreams and expectations.
When she arrives in London, she is quite excited, but what she didn’t know was that her friend Natalya, who told her to come to London, sold her to a brothel. Anna is immediately being trafficked into prostitution and sexual slavery.
In the beginning Anna seems to be a very naive girl. She thought that her life in London would be so much better than at home. Before the prostitution, she was a very pure girl who had never really been in contact with boys.
At home she liked using make-up and dressing up. This shows that she actually is just a child. On her way to London she also uses make-up because she doesn’t want to look too young.
During her stay in the brothel she is raped and beaten several times a day. Instead of accepting her new cruel life, she still has the bravery to make up a plan to get out of the brothel. She keeps all the pills that the pimps give her and she decides to put them into one of the pimp’s drinks. This also shows that she is a really smart girl.
With the help of Job she is able to get out of the flat.
Anna is also a very good-hearted person. You can see that when she gives money to another prostitute or when she decides to help Katy in her household. She keeps Katy’s flat clean and she even cooks for her.
After all this horrible time that Anna has been through, she is scared of course, but she still hasn’t lost her bravery and her principles of being a hard worker. She seems to be a really diligent person. This is something that her old grandmother, who has been through a lot on her own, when she was younger, taught her.
Katy, the woman who allowed her to stay with her for a few weeks, also describes Anna as a humorous girl which seems surprising, considering how her life has been in the last few months. She also seems to be a caring person because she notices when Katy is sad and Anna kind of tries to help her and talk to her.
With the help of Katy she manages to find a job as a waitress and that’s when she starts earning money with a totally normal job.
So you can definitely see that Anna still has this fighting spirit in her because she wants to build up a new and better life in London.
All in all you have to say that she is a really inspiring person who never gives up. I think other teenagers who had to experience such cruelty, would have given u or maybe even killed themselves because they just couldn’t take it anymore.
This naive little girl turns into a really strong young woman who is now ready to start a new life.
